Deuba flies to Singapore for treatment ahead of March 5 polls

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and ousted President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has left for Singapore for medical treatment ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives election.

According to sources close to Deuba, he flew to Singapore on Wednesday night via Tribhuvan International Airport on a Singapore Airlines flight. He is said to have travelled along with family members for treatment.

Deuba’s departure comes at a time when preparations for the March 5 HoR election have entered the final phase.

Following the Nepali Congress special general convention held on January 15, a new executive committee led by Gagan Thapa was elected. After the Election Commission of Nepal granted official recognition to the Thapa-led committee, Deuba has remained largely inactive in party and political affairs.

Earlier, Deuba had travelled to Singapore for treatment after sustaining injuries during the Gen Z protest held on September 8 and 9. Sources said his latest visit is for follow-up treatment.

The Nepali Congress has not fielded Deuba as a candidate in the March 5 election.
