SURKHET: With seven days remaining for the March 5 House of Representatives elections, 359 polling stations in Karnali Province have been identified as highly sensitive from a security standpoint.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Jayaraj Sapkota, Chief of the Karnali Provincial Police Office in Surkhet, said that of the total polling stations across the province’s 10 districts, 359 are classified as highly sensitive, 422 as sensitive and 160 as normal.
Karnali has a total of 959 polling stations, including 941 permanent and 18 temporary stations. There are altogether 1,455 polling centers in the province. Of these, 446 polling centers have been categorized as highly sensitive, 697 as sensitive and 284 as normal in terms of security arrangements.
According to the police, 525 polling stations have only one polling center, 353 have two centers, 49 have three centers, 12 have four centers, one has five centers and one has six centers. All 18 temporary polling stations have a single center. In addition, 496 auxiliary polling centers have been set up.
Karnali Province has 12 constituencies for the House of Representatives, two each in Surkhet and Dailekh, and one each in the remaining eight districts. The province comprises 54 rural municipalities and 25 municipalities, with a total of 718 wards and over 1.37 million voters.
