4.2 magnitude earthquake hits Baitadi

BAITADI: A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck Baitadi district on Sunday afternoon, with its epicentre at Airigaon.

Rajesh Sharma, a seismologist at the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, said the earthquake occurred at 1:06 pm.

The tremor was felt in remote villages across the district, prompting residents to take note of the seismic activity.

Baitadi lies in Nepal’s seismically active western Himalayan region, where earthquakes occur due to the ongoing collision between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage following the tremor.
