JANAKPURDHAM: A total of 1,938 industries and businesses in Madhes Province were closed during the last fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26) amid the economic slowdown and other challenges.
According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Madhes Province government, 821 industries and 1,117 businesses were deregistered during the fiscal year.
Meanwhile, 5,068 new industries were registered in the province during the same period. Of them, 1,101 were registered in Parsa, 777 in Dhanusha, 639 in Bara, 636 in Sarlahi, 554 in Siraha, 533 in Rautahat, 514 in Mahottari and 314 in Saptari, according to ministry Information Officer Upendra Kumar Mahato.
A total of 7,540 industries were also renewed during the fiscal year. Similarly, 6,122 private firms and 18 partnership firms were newly registered, while 11,144 firms were renewed, Mahato said.
The ministry collected Rs 52.649 million in revenue from the registration and renewal of industries and businesses during the fiscal year, according to Mahato.
He attributed the growing number of industries being deregistered to the global economic slowdown and liquidity constraints, limited lending by banks and financial institutions, lack of investment capital, and the increasing registration of industries at the local level.
