HETAUDA: The Bagmati Provincial Assembly meeting convened for Bagmati Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar to seek a vote of confidence is scheduled for 4 pm on Tuesday.
The meeting was postponed three times on Monday after it could not be held at the scheduled time. It has now been rescheduled for 4 pm on Tuesday.
According to a notice issued by Provincial Assembly Secretary Ram Kumar Poudel, the Speaker changed the meeting time in accordance with Sub-rule (3) of Rule 6 of the Provincial Assembly Rules, 2074 BS.
Chief Minister Thapa Magar is seeking a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly in accordance with the constitutional provisions. However, the Nepali Congress has questioned his appointment, while disputes have also emerged within the ruling coalition over the distribution of ministries, selection of ministers and power-sharing arrangements.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the Nepali Congress have issued whips instructing their lawmakers not to vote in favour of the chief minister. Some lawmakers from the ruling coalition are also reportedly dissatisfied, increasing uncertainty over whether Thapa Magar will secure the required support.
At Tuesday’s 4 pm meeting, Chief Minister Thapa Magar will table a motion seeking a vote of confidence, which will then be put to a vote in the Provincial Assembly.
