FIFA suspends ANFA until further notice

KATHMANDU: Football’s governing body FIFA has suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

The FIFA Council Bureau decided on Wednesday to suspend ANFA until further notice in accordance with Article 14 of the FIFA Statutes.

With this decision, ANFA has lost all membership rights granted under Article 14 of the FIFA Statutes.

FIFA stated that during the suspension period, ANFA’s representative teams and affiliated club teams will not be allowed to participate in international competitions.

Similarly, ANFA and its affiliated members or officials will not be eligible to benefit from development programs, training or educational activities conducted by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

As a result of the suspension, Nepal’s national football teams and club teams will be barred from international participation. Funding support that ANFA had been receiving from FIFA and AFC will also be halted.

In addition, ANFA and its officials will not be able to take part in FIFA and AFC development initiatives while the suspension remains in place.

According to the letter, the FIFA Council Bureau or the FIFA Council may lift the suspension at any time before the next FIFA Congress is held.
