Storm damages transmission lines, disrupts electricity supply in parts of Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority has stated that electricity supply in some parts of the country has been disrupted after trees fell on transmission lines due to strong winds.

The authority said voltage fluctuations and tripping issues were observed in several areas following the disruption, prompting the deployment of technical teams for immediate restoration work.

NEA spokesperson Rajan Dhakal said technical teams have been mobilized and repair work is ongoing to resolve the issues caused by damage to transmission infrastructure.

“Trees that fell between tower numbers 122 and 123 along the Piluwa (Pathlaiya)–Chandranigahpur section have already been removed. The process of re-energizing the circuit is now underway,” he said.

He added that electricity flow has already been restored after removing three fallen trees between tower numbers 136 and 137, which had affected the line during Saturday night.

However, he said trees falling between towers 46 and 47 in the Amlekhgunj–Kamane section had caused damage to the HTLS (High Temperature Low Sag) conductor.

According to him, the issue is technically complex, and a specialized HTLS technical team reached the site early Sunday morning to begin stringing work for restoration.

The NEA said efforts are underway to fully normalize electricity supply as soon as possible.
