Moderate rain likely in hills, heat wave risk in Terai



KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently experiencing the influence of westerly and local winds, along with a low-pressure system near the eastern part of the country, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

The Division stated that the weather is generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Partial cloud cover has been reported in the hilly and mountainous areas of Madhesh Province and the remaining parts of Lumbini Province, while most other Terai areas remain mainly clear.

Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces, while light rain has been recorded in one or two places in Bagmati Province.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. The Division has forecast moderate rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning in some hilly and mountainous areas of these provinces, as well as in a few places in Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The forecast also warns of hot weather conditions in the hilly areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, with a possibility of heat waves in the Terai region.

Tonight, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, including the mountainous regions of the remaining provinces, are expected to remain generally cloudy. The hilly areas of other provinces will see partial cloud cover, while the remaining Terai regions are likely to remain mainly clear.

The Division has also forecast moderate to heavy rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some places of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at a few locations in the hilly and mountainous areas of Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
