Heavy rainfall recorded in multiple districts, more rain likely

KATHMANDU: Several districts across Nepal witnessed heavy rainfall as weather conditions turned cloudy, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Data from the past 12 hours shows that Lamjung recorded the highest rainfall at 87.4 mm, nearing the threshold of very heavy rainfall. Other districts including Rolpa (65.2 mm), Pyuthan (74.6 mm), and Kavrepalanchok (63.6 mm) also reported heavy rainfall.

Moderate rainfall was recorded in Kaski (33 mm), Gulmi (37 mm), and Dhankuta (37 mm).

Meteorologist Binu Maharjan said that rainfall is expected to continue in many parts of the country from today, which is likely to ease the ongoing heatwave conditions.

The Department said that the influence of westerly and local winds is currently affecting Nepal’s weather system, leading to increased rainfall activity.

According to the forecast, on Sunday, hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province, and Gandaki Province will generally remain cloudy, while other regions will see partly cloudy conditions.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places in these provinces, as well as in hilly and mountainous areas of Lumbini Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpashchim Province. A few places in the Terai region of Lumbini Province may also receive rainfall.

Meanwhile, hot conditions are likely to persist in parts of the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, the Department added in its evening bulletin.
