Westerly winds trigger chances of rain in parts of Nepal

KATHMANDU: Weather conditions across Nepal are being influenced by westerly and local winds, bringing a likelihood of rain and thunderstorms in some areas, the Weather Forecasting Division said.

At present, weather conditions are generally changing in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while other hilly and mountainous areas are experiencing partly cloudy conditions. The Terai region is mostly clear. Some places in these provinces have reported moderate rainfall and snowfall.

The Division said the weather will remain generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly regions and partly cloudy in the plains. There is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, including the Terai areas of Madhesh, as well as in some hilly and Himalayan areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the mountainous regions and partly cloudy in the hills and plains. Light rain or snowfall is likely at a few places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali.

Meanwhile, temperatures are gradually rising across most parts of the country. The Division has forecast further increases in the Terai, valleys, and inner plains of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and has urged the public in these areas to remain cautious.
