President emphasizes building a harmonious and civilized society

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has emphasized the need to further strengthen unity among Nepalis and inspire all to build a civilized society marked by social harmony.

Extending best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasion of Sita Jayanti today, the President said it is a matter of pride for the country that Goddess Sita—revered as the mother of the world—was born in Mithila, Nepal.

Sita Jayanti, observed annually on Baisakh Shukla Navami, is celebrated with special worship. According to the Ramayana and other Purana, Sita was born during the Treta Yuga when King Janaka of Mithila discovered her while ploughing a field. Her birth remains an important part of Nepal’s mythological and cultural heritage.

Known by various names such as Janaki, Vaidehi, and Janak Nandini, Sita is worshipped with great reverence. On this day, devotees offer special prayers at temples, including the Janaki Temple and other Ram-Janaki temples across the country.

Mother Sita is regarded as the embodiment of virtue, patience, tolerance, and generosity. Since ancient times, particularly in Mithila civilization, she has been revered as an ideal figure guiding the role and dignity of women in society.
