Transport operators warn govt of self-declared fare hike if adjustment not made

KATHMANDU: Transport business operators have warned the government that they may collect fares at self-declared rates if public transport fares are not adjusted.

The Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs National Federation highlighted the issue on Wednesday.

“Although the Department of Transport Management recommended an 11.33% increase in fares for passenger vehicles, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has not implemented the hike. Since the department does not have the authority to announce fares on its own, we strongly demand that the government adjust fares as recommended,” the statement signed by Federation General Secretary Deknath Gautam said.

Earlier, Nepal Oil Corporation had increased diesel prices by Rs 10 per liter and petrol by Rs 15 per liter, effective from March 16. Following this, transport operators have been pressuring the government to revise fares accordingly.
