Government to make Gen-Z protest probe report public

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has decided to make public three key documents prepared at different times, including the report of the probe commission formed to investigate the Gen-Z protest incidents. According to the prime minister’s office, the report of the Gen‑Z Protest Investigation Commission 2082 related to the incidents that occurred on September 8 and 9, 2025, will be made public. The report will be released by keeping it as an official record at the library of the Federal Parliament Secretariat of Nepal.

Phone records show frequent coordination among security chiefs during Gen-Z movement

During the Gen-Z protests on September 8and 9, 2025, more than 500 phone calls were made among senior officials of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, Ministry of Home Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office, and National Investigation Department, according to the 898-page report of the high-level commission led by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki. The commission has recommended disciplinary action against then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other senior security officials, highlighting that a central command was actively directing measures to control the protests.

High-level commission says evidence from Baneshwor clash during Gen-Z protests not preserved

In his statement to a high-level probe commission formed to study the Gen-Z protests, Lamichhane said he neither participated in drafting nor signing the letter that was later circulated as having been issued from jail. “Prison authorities were preparing to provide me with an official release letter, but before the document was finalized, a crowd took me outside the jail,” he said. “I later learned that a letter had been issued from jail, but I had no involvement in signing or preparing it. Therefore, the prison administration itself should be held accountable for the matter.”

Kulman Ghising says Ujyalo Nepal will run ‘people’s government from the streets’

Kulman Ghising, chair of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, has said the party will run a people’s government from the streets. Speaking at a Bagmati Province-level leaders’ gathering and training program on Wednesday, Ghising said the party has received a mandate from the recent House of Representatives elections to lead a government representing ordinary citizens from the streets. Stating that the government of the streets now belongs to Ujyalo Nepal, he said the party would play a strong role in steering the country toward prosperity through grassroots mobilization.

PM Karki calls for upholding election standards in future polls

Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has emphasized that the standards set by the Election Commission (EC) during the House of Representatives (HoR) member election, 2026, should be upheld in the upcoming elections as well. Speaking at a reception organized by the Election Commission at its office, Kantipath today, marking the completion of the House of Representatives member election, 2026, Prime Minister Karki stated that there should be no need for re-voting at any polling station across the country and that the standards of peaceful elections must be maintained in future polls.

51 Nepalis rescued from online scam centres in Cambodia

A total of 51 Nepali nationals who had been taken to Cambodia and forced to work in illegal online scam center and casinos have been rescued and returned to Nepal. According to the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok, the individuals had reached Cambodia through different channels after being lured by various people with promises of employment. They were later found working in online fraud operations and other illegal activities, while some were also staying in the country without valid passports. The rescue was carried out with the initiative of the Nepali embassy in Bangkok and with the support of the Cambodian government. The repatriation process was facilitated by the Non-Resident Nepali Association Cambodia.

Gold price up by Rs 14,600

The price of gold in the Nepali market has increased significantly on Wednesday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. The federation said the price of fine gold rose by Rs 14,600 per tola, reaching Rs 288,500 per tola. On Tuesday, fine gold was traded at Rs 273,900 per tola. Similarly, the price of silver has also increased by Rs 415 per tola. Silver is being traded at Rs 4,920 per tola today, compared to Rs 4,505 per tola on Tuesday.

Court questioned on impact of Rabi Lamichhane case withdrawal on other defendants

Senior advocates on Tuesday questioned the Supreme Court on how the withdrawal of cases against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane might affect other defendants. Senior advocate Tikaram Bhattarai highlighted that the main accused, GB Rai, who is absconding and has a Red Corner Notice issued against him for cooperative fraud, money laundering, and organized crime, was effectively cleared as a result of Lamichhane’s case withdrawal. “By withdrawing Rabi Lamichhane’s case, even the charges against GB Rai, who is on the run, were removed,” Bhattarai told the bench. He questioned whether the court could accept that GB Rai was granted de facto immunity through the decision favoring Lamichhane.

Sabitra Bhandari undergoes successful knee surgery in New Zealand

Nepal women’s national football team captain Sabitra Bhandari (Samba) has successfully undergone knee surgery at a hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. Bhandari shared the update on her Facebook account, confirming that the surgery, performed by Dr. Simon and his medical team, was successful. Earlier, she had raised funds through social media for knee surgery in Qatar. However, due to the current situation in the Gulf region, she received treatment in New Zealand under the guidance of local specialists.

Police seize three vehicles involved in illegal river material extraction in Tanahun

Police in Tanahun District have taken control of three vehicles involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of riverbed materials. A police team deployed from the Area Police Office, Saranghat, seized the vehicles on Wednesday while they were loading gravel illegally in the Bagar Khola area of Bandipur Rural Municipality–6. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shravan Kumar Bik of the District Police Office, Tanahun, the seized vehicles include a JCB (Lu 1 Ka 3241) and two tipper trucks (Ga 1 Ka 5442 and Ga 1 Kha 7436).

Arjun Narsingh KC assumes office at Parliament Secretariat

Arjun Narsingh KC, the senior-most member among those elected in the recent House of Representatives of Nepal election held on March 5, has taken the oath of office and secrecy. KC took the oath before President Ramchandra Paudel during a special ceremony held at Shital Niwas on Wednesday morning. Following the ceremony, he reached the Parliament Secretariat and formally assumed office. Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, and Chairperson of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal were present at the ceremony, along with heads of constitutional bodies, chiefs of diplomatic missions, and senior government officials.

Lamichhane, Balen hold talks on govt formation; ministerial names under discussion

Rabi Lamichhane and senior leader Balen Shah are holding ongoing discussions on government formation and the selection of leaders to be sent to the government. According to party sources, top-level discussions within the Rastriya Swatantra Party have been underway since March 19 regarding the selection of ministers and key parliamentary positions. Soon after providing orientation training to newly elected lawmakers, Lamichhane and Shah also held discussions with vice presidents DP Aryal and Swarnim Wagle at a hotel in Durbar Marg. Since then, the two leaders have continued consultations, though other senior leaders have not yet been formally included in the talks.

Balendra Shah to be sworn in as Prime Minister on Friday

The country is set to get a new Prime Minister on March 27, with senior Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Balendra Shah (Balen) scheduled to take the oath of office and secrecy on Friday. The swearing-in ceremony is set for 12:34 PM. Later in the afternoon, at 2:15 PM, Balen will formally assume office at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office in Singha Durbar.

Medical team deployed to high-altitude regions for spring climbing season

A specialized medical team has been deployed to Nepal’s Himalayan region to provide health check-ups and treatment for climbers and trekkers arriving during the spring mountaineering season. The Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal has mobilized an 11-member team, including foreign and Nepali doctors, to major high-altitude areas such as Everest Base Camp and Pheriche in Solukhumbu District, as well as Manang District. The initiative aims to deliver medical services and support to both domestic and international mountaineers and trekkers in remote high-altitude locations.
