Sabitra Bhandari undergoes successful knee surgery in New Zealand

KATHMANDU: Nepal women’s national football team captain Sabitra Bhandari (Samba) has successfully undergone knee surgery at a hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.

Bhandari shared the update on her Facebook account, confirming that the surgery, performed by Dr. Simon and his medical team, was successful.

Earlier, she had raised funds through social media for knee surgery in Qatar. However, due to the current situation in the Gulf region, she received treatment in New Zealand under the guidance of local specialists.

“Due to the current situation in the Gulf region, reaching Qatar and Aspetar became difficult. Following their advice, my surgery was performed by available experts in New Zealand. Once my condition stabilizes, I will continue rehabilitation at Aspetar, and I will keep everyone informed,” she wrote.

She also expressed gratitude to all those who supported her during her recovery.

“I cannot thank enough the Nepali families in Wellington and Auckland who stood by me during this difficult time. My club Wellington Phoenix and my management team worked tirelessly to arrange this surgery. To all my supporters who always send love and encouragement, your energy inspires me to push forward on my comeback journey. Thank you from the heart. Now, all my focus is on returning stronger,” Bhandari wrote.
