Bird flu detected at five poultry farms in Morang

MORANG: Bird flu has been confirmed at five poultry farms in Morang district, raising concerns among authorities and farmers.

The infection was detected in chickens at Dahal Agro Farm, Haleshi Mahadev Farm, Athiyabari Farm, A to Z Farm, and Kamakhya Poultry Farm, located in different parts of the district.

The confirmation was made by the Veterinary Laboratory in Biratnagar.

Following the detection, the laboratory has initiated procedures to cull infected poultry, along with eggs, feed, and related materials. According to Dr Kamal Giri, chief of the lab, around 10 farmers have been visiting the facility daily with dead broiler and layer chickens for testing.

Out of 198 samples tested since last July, 45 have returned positive results. Other suspected samples have been sent to Kathmandu for further examination.
