Roads blacktopped after 26 years, locals rejoice

BAGLUNG: Residents are celebrating as rural roads have finally been blacktopped 26 years after the initial tracks were opened. The Mulpani-Titaure, Odarchaur-Dhodeni, and Ganeshghumti-Nirayaghat roads, which connect to the district headquarters, have been paved, making travel and transportation of goods much easier.

Under the Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development Program, 8.5 km of the Mulpani-Titaure road, 2.5 km of Odarchaur-Dhodeni, and 1.5 km of Ganeshghumti-Nirayaghat, totaling 12.2 km, have been blacktopped.

Baglung Municipality Mayor Basanta Kumar Shrestha said the project was funded with a Rs 480 million grant from the World Bank and will improve travel and facilitate the marketing of local products. “It has been a long time since the tracks were opened, but without blacktop, villagers struggled with dust and poor road conditions. The new paved roads will make daily life and transportation much easier,” he said.

The three roads run through wards 1, 4, and 7 of Baglung Municipality. Local resident Tulsi Sapkota said the blacktop has eliminated dust and mud that previously reached homes whenever a vehicle passed by. Another resident, Prem BK, said the road now allows for faster and safer travel to the Baglung market, which previously took an hour and a half on narrow, difficult tracks.
