KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supply, and Consumer Protection has stepped up market monitoring following a rise in complaints related to food and beverages, particularly amid intensified election preparations.
As part of the inspections, JS General Store in Kuleshwor, Kathmandu, was fined Rs 10,000 for failing to meet required standards, in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075.
On the same day, the department inspected twenty other firms. Nine of them were issued directives to improve their services and uphold consumer rights.
The monitoring activities were conducted with the participation of local representatives, consumer rights advocates, and other stakeholders, the department clarified.
