Weather: Thunderstorms and lightning likely in hilly regions

KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently under the influence of a western low-pressure system, bringing variable weather across the country.

Light rain and snowfall are occurring in some hilly and mountainous areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with isolated showers expected in other hilly and mountainous regions, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Fog is forecast in some Terai areas during the morning and afternoon, while the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces remain generally cloudy. There is a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain or snowfall in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, and at one or two places in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, fog may reappear in some Terai locations, while high hills and mountains of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces may see isolated rain or snowfall. The Terai region will remain mostly clear, and other hilly areas will experience partly cloudy to generally cloudy conditions.

The Department has advised residents, travelers, and those involved in daily outdoor activities to exercise caution in areas prone to fog, rainfall, snowfall, and thunderstorms.
