Sarlahi-4, Gagan’s constituency, classified as ‘most sensitive’

SARLAHI: Sarlahi Constituency-4, where Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa is contesting for the House of Representatives, has been placed on the most sensitive list in terms of security.

According to the District Election Office, more than 92 percent of polling stations in Sarlahi for the upcoming elections on March 5 are categorized as sensitive. All 81 polling stations in Sarlahi-4 fall under the “most sensitive” category. Some of these stations were inspected by officials from the District Security Committee on Saturday afternoon.

A total of 628 polling stations have been set up across the four constituencies of Sarlahi, of which 158 are classified as highly sensitive, 131 as sensitive, and only 23 fall under the general category. Sarlahi-4 has been deemed highly sensitive due to its remoteness, proximity to the Nepal-India border, past clashes between parties, and previous criminal incidents.

Sarlahi-4 has 121,120 registered voters. The other constituencies in Sarlahi district have 130,871 voters in Sarlahi-1; 125,311 in Sarlahi-2; and 134,412 in Sarlahi-3. Overall, 511,606 voters, including 278,837 men, 232,758 women, and 11 others, will cast their ballots in Sarlahi, with 22,595 new voters added for this election.

In the 2022 House of Representatives elections, Amaresh Kumar Singh won this constituency as an independent candidate after being denied a party ticket. This time, he is contesting under the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
