NA election: Voting underway across all seven provinces



KATHMANDU: Voting has begun today for 18 National Assembly (NA) seats that will fall vacant from March 4. Polling started at 9 am on Sunday at designated centers in the provincial capitals of all seven provinces, Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Bhattarai informed. Voting will continue until 3 pm.

Out of the 18 seats, one seat from the Khas Arya category in Koshi Province has been filled unopposed. Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress was elected unopposed to this seat. Elections are being held today for the remaining 17 vacant seats.

Polling centers have been set up at the Provincial Election Office in Biratnagar for Koshi Province, Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Mithila Culture Center in Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City-4 for Madhesh Province, and Bhutan Devi Secondary School in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-4 for Bagmati Province.

Voting has also begun at the Provincial Election Office in Pokhara, Kaski for Gandaki Province, the Employee Meeting Center in Ghorahi, Dang for Lumbini Province, the Provincial Election Office in Birendranagar, Surkhet for Karnali Province, and the Provincial Election Office in Dhangadhi, Kailali for Sudurpaschim Province, Bhattarai added.

Members of the Provincial Assembly, mayors and deputy mayors, and chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities are eligible to vote in the National Assembly election.

The Commission noted that the previously determined vote shares for the National Assembly election have been revised, as some representatives resigned and filed their candidacies for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
