BANEPA: Vehicle movement along the Kavrepalanchok section of the BP Highway will be suspended at night for four days in view of the potential risks of floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall.
A meeting of the Monsoon Response Command Post, Kavrepalanchok decided to suspend vehicle movement on the Kavre section of the highway from September 24-28, Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari said.
According to Adhikari, vehicle movement will be prohibited from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am during the period in view of the weather forecast of heavy rainfall from Thursday through Sunday.
The meeting also decided that daytime vehicle movement could be suspended if necessary after assessing rainfall and flood conditions. Adhikari said the meeting decided to request the Chief District Officers of Sindhuli and Bhaktapur to facilitate implementation of the decision.
The meeting also decided to regularly inform residents living in areas vulnerable to floods and landslides about potential risks and strengthen the dissemination of early warnings through local media. The Kavrepalanchok chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists will be requested to facilitate the process.
Similarly, the meeting directed the Nepali Army’s Shree Mehar Battalion, District Police Office Kavrepalanchok, and Armed Police Force Nepal’s No. 15 Battalion Headquarters to keep rescue teams on standby at various locations.
It also decided to ensure necessary coordination and effective rescue arrangements by maintaining regular contact with local disaster management committees. The administration has urged people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert to early warnings and avoid traveling to risky areas unless necessary.
