KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has urged Germany to support the rehabilitation, resettlement, and reconstruction of areas affected by the recent floods in Nepal.
During a bilateral meeting with German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali Radovan on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Minister Khanal highlighted the need for additional investment in post-disaster reconstruction, climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and capacity building.
During the meeting, Khanal expressed gratitude to the German government and people for their sympathy, solidarity, and support following the significant loss of life and property caused by the floods.
“Nepal is moving forward with post-disaster rehabilitation, resettlement, and reconstruction. In this context, additional investment in climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and capacity building is essential,” he said.
Minister Khanal praised Germany’s longstanding and significant support for Nepal’s development process and emphasized that addressing the challenges posed by climate change is a shared responsibility of the international community, according to his secretariat.
On the occasion, Minister Radovan said the recent “devastating disaster” in Nepal should be viewed as a shared global challenge and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to providing financial and humanitarian assistance to Nepal.
The two sides also exchanged views on various aspects of the cordial bilateral relations between Nepal and Germany and expressed commitment to further strengthening and deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest in the coming days.
