Harka questions whether Nepal’s laws are weak or those enforcing them

KATHMANDU: Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harkaraj Sampang has questioned whether Nepal’s laws are weak or the people responsible for enforcing them are incapable.

Speaking during the special session of the House of Representatives on Monday, Sampang questioned the effectiveness of Nepal’s legal system.

“Is our country’s law weak, or are the people enforcing the law?” Sampang asked. Comparing the situation to a vehicle, he questioned whether the problem lies with the vehicle itself or with the person unable to drive it properly.

Sampang also expressed anger over the government’s inability to bring home the bodies of Nepali migrant workers who die abroad.

He said Nepal had even been unable to recover money allegedly kept in Swiss banks, while families of Nepali migrant workers faced difficulties bringing the bodies of their loved ones back home.

Sampang said criminals were walking around as if they carried the law in their pockets, stressing that people must have fear and respect for the law.

He also called for severe punishment for those convicted of rape and murder of minor girls.

“Minor girls are being raped and murdered. Once a person is proven to be a rapist, they should be punished severely,” Sampang said.
