KATHMANDU: Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces today, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warning of possible flash floods, landslides and soil erosion in affected areas.
Monsoon winds are currently affecting the country, while the monsoon trough is located near its average position, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division.
It said the weather is currently generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain is occurring in Bagmati, Gandaki, Koshi, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, with rain reported in some areas. Light rain is also occurring at one or two places in Madhesh Province.
This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. There is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some mountainous areas, while moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in many parts of the hilly region.
According to the weather bulletin, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as at a few places in the Terai areas of Koshi and Madhesh provinces. Heavy rainfall is also possible at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the mountainous regions.
Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is also possible at some places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at a few places in the hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at a few places in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
The Division has urged people to take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall could trigger disasters such as flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion.
It also warned that rainfall could affect daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transportation and air services in the affected areas. The Division has urged all concerned to stay updated with the latest weather information.
