Foreign Ministry releases 49-point report detailing diplomatic engagements and consular services



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has published a 49-point report outlining its major activities over the past month, highlighting Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal’s official visits to India and China, diplomatic engagements, and consular services provided to Nepali citizens.

According to the ministry, Foreign Minister Khanal paid an official visit to India from June 5 to 7 at the invitation of Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. During the visit, the two sides held bilateral discussions on development cooperation, trade, energy, and people-to-people relations.

The report also noted that Khanal undertook a four-day official visit to China from June 14 to 17 at the invitation of the Chinese Foreign Minister. The visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties and advancing areas of mutual cooperation.

Among domestic diplomatic activities, the ministry facilitated a joint courtesy meeting between Prime Minister Balen Shah and ambassadors and heads of missions of the European Union and other European countries based in Kathmandu and New Delhi on May 26.

The ministry further stated that the Foreign Minister and Foreign Secretary participated in an interaction organized by the Federal Parliament’s International Relations and Tourism Committee. During the event, ministry officials presented details on foreign policy priorities, ongoing programs, and bilateral and multilateral diplomatic initiatives.

The report also highlighted progress in Nepal-India railway cooperation. The 10th meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) and the 8th meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on cross-border railway connectivity were held in Kathmandu on June 11 and 12. The meetings reviewed the implementation status, construction progress, and future plans of Nepal-India cross-border railway projects.

On the consular front, the ministry reported that 19 Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) identity cards were issued during the month.

The Department of Consular Services authenticated 75,453 documents and coordinated the rescue and compensation process for 122 Nepali citizens. The department also facilitated arrangements for the repatriation and management of the remains of 22 Nepali nationals who died abroad.

According to the ministry, a total of 101,330 passports were issued during the month through the Department of Passports, Nepali diplomatic missions, and district and area administration offices across the country.

The report provides a comprehensive overview of the ministry’s diplomatic outreach, international engagements, and citizen services during the review period.
