Over 400 candidates contest for RSP Central Committee posts at first general convention

CHITWAN: More than 400 candidates have entered the race for 99 Central Committee positions of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as the party moves forward with leadership elections during its first national general convention.

According to Bhuvan KC, Chief of the party’s Central Election Commission, nomination registration continued until late Tuesday night, with the final tally of candidates being verified before the publication of the first candidate list.

“We are finalizing the exact number, but more than 400 nominations have been received. The list will be published at 9:00 am today,” KC said.

The election process follows the unopposed election of RSP President Rabi Lamichhane on Tuesday night.

Party leaders said the election will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, representatives will elect 99 Central Committee members. The second phase will focus on the election of the party’s office bearers.

Around 4,000 representatives are expected to participate in the voting process.

To facilitate voting, the party has arranged 80 electronic voting machines. Members residing abroad will also be able to cast their votes through a mobile application.

Founded in 2022, the RSP is holding its first-ever general convention in Chitwan from June 21. A total of 3,849 representatives are participating in the gathering, marking a significant milestone in the party’s organizational development.
