Schools in Nepalgunj to remain closed for three days beginning today

NEPALGUNJ: All schools operating within Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City will remain closed for three days starting today due to extreme heat conditions.

The Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City had earlier issued a public notice announcing the temporary closure of schools in response to the ongoing heatwave. The decision was taken to protect students and staff from the adverse health effects of soaring temperatures.

According to Gorkha Bahadur Khatri, chief of the Education Division at the sub-metropolitan city, all teaching and learning activities will be suspended for three days based on recommendations from relevant agencies, including the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

“We were compelled to close schools after students in many institutions began experiencing heat-related health problems, including fainting and severe headaches, as temperatures continued to rise,” Khatri said.

A total of 163 schools are currently operating within Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City.

According to Ram Prasad Awasthi, senior divisional hydrologist at the Hydrology and Meteorology Office in Kohalpur, the temperature in Nepalgunj reached 40 degrees Celsius today, while nearby Khajura recorded 39.6 degrees Celsius.
