Iranian envoy calls for stronger Nepal-Iran relations

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed non-resident Iranian Ambassador to Nepal Dr. Mohammad Fathali has stressed the need to further strengthen bilateral ties between Nepal and Iran, highlighting the two countries’ long-standing historical and civilizational connections.

Speaking on Nepal-Iran relations in Kathmandu last week, Ambassador Fathali said Nepal is a country rich in civilization, proud history and warm-hearted people, adding that Iran has always viewed Nepal with “respect and friendship.”

“Although geographical distance exists between our two countries, there are many common values between our nations, including respect for culture, family, spirituality and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

The ambassador noted that relations between Nepal and Iran extend beyond political engagement and are rooted in deep cultural and civilizational ties.

He said the time had come to give “new energy and new direction” to bilateral relations, citing opportunities for cooperation in trade, tourism, energy, education, technology, health, mountain tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

“Iran is fully ready to expand cooperation with Nepal in all these sectors,” Fathali said, adding that closer relations among Asian countries could contribute to peace, stability and regional development.

The envoy also praised Nepal’s “balanced and independent foreign policy” and expressed hope that ties between the two countries would continue to grow in the coming years through cultural, educational and economic cooperation.
