Buses to Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa to operate only from Gongabu Bus Park

KATHMANDU: Public transport vehicles operating to Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa have begun departing exclusively from the New Bus Park in Gongabu from today.

Buses that were previously operating from areas around Machhapokhari and Balaju have now been relocated inside the bus park following a decision by Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

The decision was made during a stakeholder meeting chaired by Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol, which directed all public vehicles within Kathmandu to operate from the designated bus park within three days.

The New Bus Park, established in 2056 BS to manage and organize public transport entering the Kathmandu Valley, had not been fully utilized by vehicles operating on these routes. Despite the presence of the Gongabu New Bus Park, buses serving Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa had continued to operate from roadside counters in nearby areas.

According to Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office spokesperson Naresh Raj Subedi, unregulated roadside parking had been causing significant traffic congestion in the valley, particularly along the Ring Road.

Officials believe that implementing the new system will help ease traffic flow and improve overall transport management.

Meanwhile, Pankaj Malla of the company operating the bus park said separate lanes and ticket counters have been arranged for vehicles serving these districts.

With nearly two million vehicles currently operating in the Kathmandu Valley and road expansion lagging behind, authorities say stricter transport management has become increasingly necessary.
