KATHMANDU: Due to a western low-pressure system, Nepal’s western region experienced a change in weather from Friday evening, with rain and snowfall reported in several districts. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the change in weather that began Friday evening persisted throughout Saturday.
Rainfall mostly stopped by Saturday afternoon. Department spokesperson Dinkar Kayastha noted that the weather system is weakening, though light rain and snowfall are expected in some high hill and mountainous areas until Sunday.
In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded in Jajarkot: 29 mm and Dadeldhura: 28.8 mm.
Other districts recorded the following rainfall: Darchula: 17.8 mm, Baitadi: 26 mm, Doti: 20 mm, Bajhang: 16.2 mm, Kanchanpur: 9.4 mm, Achham: 12.6 mm, Kalikot: 19.4 mm, Dailekh: 14.3 mm, Jumla: 12.7 mm, Mugu: 12 mm, and Dolpa: 13.5 mm.
Light rain and snowfall were also reported in Baglung, Myagdi, Rukum East, Rolpa, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Surkhet, and Gulmi.
The weather bulletin issued Saturday evening indicated that the low-pressure system is still affecting Nepal, causing cloudy conditions over the remaining hilly and mountainous areas in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces.
Tonight, high hill and mountain areas are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with partly cloudy skies elsewhere. Some light rain or snowfall is possible in a few locations of the high hill and mountainous areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
On Sunday, high hill and mountain regions will generally remain cloudy, with partly cloudy conditions elsewhere. A few locations in Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces may see light rain or snowfall, and eastern and central Terai areas may experience morning fog in some places.
