HoR election: Complaints filed against three candidates in PR list



KATHMANDU: Complaints have been lodged regarding three candidates included in the closed list submitted by political parties under the proportional representation system for the House of Representatives (HoR) Member elections on March 5.

The Election Commission said in a press release today that complaints have been filed with the Commission regarding Chandeswar Mandal of Siraha, listed at serial number 97 on the closed list from the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Jivan Lama of Lalitpur, listed at serial number 62 on the closed list from the Nepali Communist Party, and Kumar Bahadur Thapa of Pakhribas-8, Dhankuta, listed at serial number 37 on the closed list from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

According to the press release issued today by Krishna Bahadur Raut, Election Officer for Proportional Representation Elections and Secretary of the Commission, Santosh Kumar Sah from Pipara Rural Municipality-1, Mahottari, has filed a complaint stating that since Mandal belongs to the indigenous community, his name should not be listed under the Madhesi community.

Similarly, Rahar Singh Tamang from Temal-2, Kavrepalanchok, has filed a complaint stating that even though Lama from Lalitpur was not disabled, it was mentioned that he was considered disabled. The statement also mentions that Pabitra Shrestha from Pakhribas-5, Dhankuta, has filed a complaint against Thapa of Dhankuta, stating that a complaint against him was under consideration at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority regarding the unauthorized sale of land in Uttarapani Tea Garden in Dhankuta.

The EC has stated that the concerned parties have been notified to be compulsorily present at the Commission on January 27 from 10 am to 4 pm with their respective evidence. It has been stated that failure to appear at the time summoned by the Commission will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
