Gokul Baskota expresses dissent over KP Oli’s recent remarks

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Gokul Baskota has voiced his dissatisfaction with recent statements made by party chair KP Sharma Oli.

On Saturday, Baskota shared his views on Facebook, stating that he has not forgotten his duty, responsibility, and principles.

He wrote, “Whether one seeks truth, ignites fire, or brings snow, that is not my concern. I cannot forget my religion, duty, and responsibility. Prejudice and revenge are not democratic virtues. The words of leader Madan Bhandari remain my political ideal.”

Baskota’s response comes after Oli’s interview published in Kantipur on Thursday, in which Oli stated that leaders Surendra Pandey and Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai are unlikely to win this time, and that there is no basis for Pandey’s candidacy.

Oli also commented that Baskota had created difficulties by causing division among party workers in Kavre.

In his statement, Baskota reaffirmed that Madan Bhandari’s political ideals continue to guide him.

Earlier, UML Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai had also responded cautiously to Oli’s remarks, noting that the party’s current priority is winning the election and promising to comment in detail after the polls on March 5.
