Heavy snowfall blocks Mid-Hill Highway in Rukum East, rescue operations underway

RUKUM EAST: Heavy snowfall in Rukum East has blocked the Mid-Hill Highway, disrupting traffic along the Lukum–Patihalne section, the District Police Office, Rukum East, has reported.

Vehicles are unable to pass through the affected stretch, leaving buses from Kathmandu stranded. A police team led by Inspector Himraj BK from the Kakri Area Police Office has been deployed to manage the situation. Continuous snowfall is ongoing in the region, officials said.

Chief District Officer Sita Pariyar stated that rescue operations for stranded vehicles and passengers are in progress, and authorities are coordinating with Bhume Rural Municipality to clear the road. Excavators are being prepared to remove snow and reopen the highway.

Snowfall has been reported in the high-altitude and mountainous areas of Rukum East since last night, while lower regions have received rainfall. The cold weather is affecting daily life, though farmers have welcomed the precipitation after a long dry spell.

Bimal BC from Sisne Rural Municipality-5 noted that wheat crops had dried due to lack of water, and the recent rainfall and snowfall have provided much-needed relief for agriculture.
