Kulman Ghising defends post-Gen-Z govt role, says entry into politics was planned

KATHMANDU: Ujyalo Nepal Party chair Kulman Ghising has addressed criticisms regarding his participation in the post-Gen-Z movement government and his subsequent entry into politics.

Through a Facebook post, Ghising clarified that he joined the non-partisan government formed after the Gen-Z movement under compelled circumstances. He stated that, considering the fragile situation at the time, he accepted a ministerial role at the request of then-Prime Minister Sushila Karki and movement leaders.

Ghising emphasized that he had informed the Prime Minister that holding a ministerial position would not be appropriate if he later decided to enter active politics. He took on the responsibility only after reaching an agreement that he could resign if necessary to pursue a political career.

He defended his tenure, noting that he stepped into the government when state structures were nearly non-functional and that he contributed to stabilizing the system. Ghising also reminded the public that he resigned amid political questions, asserting that he is not motivated by position but by a sense of duty.

During his 115-day tenure overseeing the Ministries of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Ghising claims his work reflected his commitment to responsibility.

He further alleged that deliberate attempts have been made to spread misinformation against him and urged people not to be influenced by such campaigns. Ghising reiterated his commitment to remain actively engaged in politics to build Ujyalo Nepal.
