Snowfall blankets remote hills of Sudurpaschim

BAITADI: Winter rainfall, including snowfall, has been reported in the hilly districts of Sudurpaschim Province since Friday evening.

According to Police Inspector Suraj Singh of the District Police Office, Baitadi, snowfall has occurred in high-altitude areas of the district such as Khodpe, Shribhavar, Dholyamod, Musyachor, Satbanjh, Dehimadaun, and surrounding regions.

Inspector Singh said that despite the snowfall, major highways remain operational and no transportation disruptions have been reported. Snowfall has also been recorded in the Byas and Apihimal areas of Darchula. Similarly, police reported snowfall in Dadeldhura district headquarters and nearby areas including Hagulte, Sahukharka, and Bhatkanda.

The first winter rain and snowfall of the season has brought relief to farmers, as prolonged dry conditions over the past four months had threatened winter crops such as wheat. Farmers expressed hope that the rainfall will improve crop yields.

However, the snowfall has led to a sharp drop in temperatures, intensifying cold conditions. Health workers have advised residents, especially children and the elderly, to take precautions against extreme cold.
