Suhang Nembang’s challenge fails, Ram Bahadur Thapa set to become UML parliamentary leader

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML is preparing to appoint Vice-Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa as the parliamentary leader of its House of Representatives faction.

Although young leader Suhang Nembang, elected from Ilam-2, had challenged the selection, no lawmaker came forward to propose or support his candidacy. Sources say Nembang, who requested an election for the parliamentary leader post, was left isolated, clearing the path for Thapa to be elected unanimously.

Under the direct instruction of UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, potential supporters and proposers for Nembang’s candidacy were reportedly discouraged from participating. Even leaders previously seen backing Nembang ultimately refrained from formally supporting him.

With no proposal or support for Nembang, the party is set to select Thapa as the parliamentary leader unopposed, ending the contest within the UML faction.
