EC yet to print 5 million PR ballot papers



KATHMANDU: With 40 days remaining until polling day, the Election Commission (EC) has reported steady progress in election preparations, including the printing of ballot papers for the proportional representation system.

Printing began at Janak Shiksha Samagri Kendra Limited. The Commission stated that printing of ballot papers for the first-past-the-post (direct) election system will start immediately after the proportional representation ballots are completed.

The final list of candidates for the direct election system has been finalized, and copies of the voter list have been printed and distributed to all districts for use during the nomination process.

The Commission has made public the names of 3,406 candidates contesting the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 and has already allocated election symbols to the candidates.

According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the candidates include 3,017 men, 388 women, and one from another gender category. He added that all election activities, from nomination registration to candidate withdrawal, were conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.

The list of candidates under the proportional representation system has also been published.
