Floods and landslides disrupt major highways in several districts

KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides have disrupted traffic along several major highways and road sections across the country, with key routes in Myagdi, Gorkha and Surkhet affected, according to Nepal Police.

Police data as of 7:00 a.m. show that a landslide at Baisari in Raghuganga Rural Municipality–2, Myagdi, has restricted traffic along the Beni–Jomsom road to single-lane operation.

Similarly, a landslide at Aulise in Barahatal Rural Municipality–7, Surkhet, has reduced the Karnali Highway to single-lane traffic.

In Gorkha, flooding has completely blocked the iron bridge at Soti, which serves areas in Arughat Rural Municipality–2, 3 and 9. The road connecting Gorkha, Arughat and Dhading has also been obstructed.

Meanwhile, the road in the Nayapul area of Arughat Rural Municipality remains passable only for small vehicles.

According to Nepal Police, efforts are underway to clear landslide debris and restore normal traffic movement along the affected routes.
