Heavy showers expected in some hilly areas



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds are currently influencing weather conditions across Nepal, with the monsoon trough positioned close to its average location.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather is currently generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in one or two places in Gandaki Province.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the country. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in several areas of the hilly regions, while moderate rain and snowfall are possible in parts of the mountainous regions.

Some areas of the Terai in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may receive moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Similar conditions are possible in parts of the Terai in Madhes, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. The Department has warned of the possibility of heavy rain in one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy tonight as well. Moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are possible in some mountainous areas. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely in parts of the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Department has urged the public to remain alert in areas where heavy rainfall is expected, as there is a risk of flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion. It warned that rainfall could disrupt daily activities and affect agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transportation and air services. All concerned have been advised to stay updated with weather information and follow necessary safety precautions.
