KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) will provide Rs 1.571 million in compensation to a child who lost both arms after suffering an electric shock from an 11 kV transmission line in Tribeni Rural Municipality-2, Nawalparasi (Susta East).
The decision was approved by the NEA Board to cover the child’s medical treatment and compensation, according to the authority.
The child sustained severe injuries after coming into contact with the transmission line while playing near the building of an Ama Samuha in Tribeni Rural Municipality-2.
The NEA said the compensation amount will be disbursed to the child’s family through its Susta East Distribution Centre.
Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the assistance was approved in line with existing legal provisions and previous practices.
The minister also directed the NEA to strengthen safety measures by carrying out regular inspection and maintenance of electricity infrastructure, increasing monitoring in high-risk areas, enhancing public awareness on electrical safety, and ensuring timely dissemination of safety information to local communities.
