Heavy rain forecast across five provinces today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions continue to influence weather across Nepal, with the monsoon trough currently positioned around its average location, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

At present, skies remain generally cloudy over the hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as Koshi and Bagmati provinces. The Terai areas of Madhesh and Koshi provinces are experiencing partly cloudy conditions.

The Division has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in many parts of the country, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely in some areas. Light to moderate snowfall is also possible in parts of the high Himalayan region.

Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected in some places across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, while a few areas of Madhesh and Sudurpaschim provinces may also receive similar weather.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the hilly districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces.

Tonight, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in several hilly areas and a few places in the Terai, while moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in some locations.

Heavy rainfall is also forecast at one or two places in the hilly and Terai regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Light to moderate snowfall is possible in parts of the mountainous and high Himalayan areas.

The Division has urged the public to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion. Such weather conditions may also disrupt agriculture, public health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation. People are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather information issued by the department.
