RSP closed session delayed amid unresolved delegate dispute

CHITWAN: The closed session of the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s (RSP) first general convention has failed to begin on schedule as disputes over delegate representation and convention management remain unresolved.

The session, which was scheduled to start at 1 pm on Tuesday, had yet to commence by nearly 2 pm, reflecting ongoing disagreements within the party.

The delay stems primarily from controversy surrounding the list of convention delegates. Although party leaders had planned to finalize delegate-related issues before proceeding with the closed session, consensus has yet to be reached among competing groups.

Senior leaders, including General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, have been engaged in efforts to launch the session, but pressure from dissatisfied leaders and party members has continued to mount.

Representatives from various districts and provinces have objected to their exclusion from the official delegate list, arguing that eligible members have been left out of the convention process.

The dispute has contributed to growing frustration at the convention venue, where concerns over transparency and representation have dominated discussions throughout the event.

Party leaders are continuing negotiations in an attempt to resolve the disagreements and move the convention forward. However, the closed session had not officially begun by the time of reporting, raising the possibility of further delays to the convention schedule.

The prolonged dispute comes as the party seeks to conclude key organizational discussions and begin leadership elections during its landmark first general convention.
