KATHMANDU: Traffic police in the Kathmandu Valley took action against 2,641 drivers in a single day for violating traffic rules, generating more than Rs 2.29 million in government revenue.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, a total of Rs 2,296,508 was collected in fines from motorists found breaching various traffic regulations.
Among those penalised were 79 drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol, 147 involved in unauthorised ride-sharing activities, 154 who violated traffic signals, and 122 found overspeeding.
Traffic police also took action against 119 drivers for failing to maintain lane discipline, 113 for unnecessary use of horns in restricted areas, 119 for parking vehicles on footpaths, and 100 for driving on one-way roads.
In addition, 1,688 motorists were penalised for various other traffic-related offences.
The traffic police said enforcement efforts are being intensified to improve road safety, maintain traffic discipline, and reduce accidents across the Kathmandu Valley.
