KATHMANDU: Monsoon activity continues across much of Nepal, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and varying cloud conditions in multiple provinces.
The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said monsoon winds are currently active across Koshi, Madhes and Bagmati provinces, as well as parts of Gandaki Province and some areas of eastern Lumbini Province. The remaining parts of the country are under the partial influence of westerly and local winds.
According to the Division, the weather is generally cloudy in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. Hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are also experiencing generally cloudy conditions, while the Terai region of Sudurpaschim remains mostly clear.
For this afternoon, generally cloudy conditions are expected across the hilly and mountainous regions of the country, as well as in the Terai of Koshi Province. The Terai areas of Madhes Province and parts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces will see partly cloudy skies, while the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to remain mainly clear.
The Division has forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two locations in similar regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at a few places in the Terai of Koshi Province, and at isolated locations in the Terai regions of Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions may persist in some parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, while hot weather is also expected in certain areas of the Terai in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
For tonight, generally cloudy conditions will continue in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the Terai of Koshi Province.
Other hilly and mountainous areas, including Madhes, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, are expected to experience partly cloudy skies, while the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim will likely remain mainly clear.
The Division has also forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at several places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi Province and at a few locations in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible at a few places in the Terai of Koshi Province and at one or two locations in the Terai of Madhes Province.
