TAPLEJUNG: Sidingwa Rural Municipality in Taplejung district has announced a 50 percent discount on electricity tariffs for households consuming up to 50 units of power per month.
The provision was unveiled as part of the municipality’s policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84.
The decision was endorsed during the 19th Rural Municipal Assembly held on Tuesday. According to Rural Municipality Chair Man Bahadur Rai, the subsidy aims to provide relief to low- and middle-income households.
Information Officer Rudra Begha said around 2,500 households in the municipality are connected to the electricity grid. Families consuming up to 50 units of electricity per month will directly benefit from the scheme, while those exceeding that threshold will not be eligible for the subsidy.
The Rural Municipality has also unveiled a budget of Rs 530.8 million for the next fiscal year.
Presenting the budget, Vice-Chair Krishna Kumari Kadariya said priority has been given to agriculture, incentives for farmers, promotion of local production, healthy living, rural road development, and grants for livestock farmers.
