Thunderstorms likely in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces today



KATHMANDU: Nepal is witnessing mixed weather conditions today, with rainfall and thunderstorms forecast in several hilly regions, while parts of the Terai are expected to experience intense heat and possible heat wave conditions.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather is generally cloudy in Koshi Province and across most mountainous and hilly regions of the country. Madhesh Province is experiencing partly cloudy conditions, while the remaining Terai areas are mostly clear.

Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in a few places in Gandaki Province and at one or two locations in Sudurpaschim Province.

The Department said that this afternoon, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are expected to remain generally cloudy. Madhesh Province and other hilly and mountainous regions will see partly cloudy conditions, while most Terai areas will remain mainly clear.

There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in a few Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Madhesh provinces. One or two places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Lumbini and Karnali provinces may also receive rainfall.

Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Gandaki Province. Meanwhile, hot day conditions are expected in the hilly areas of Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces, while heat wave conditions may occur in parts of the Terai.

Tonight, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are expected to remain generally cloudy. The mountainous and hilly areas of the remaining provinces will be partly cloudy, while the rest of the Terai will remain mainly clear.

The Department has forecast moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in some areas of Koshi and Madhesh provinces, as well as in the hilly and mountainous regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

A few mountainous areas of Karnali Province may also receive rainfall. In addition, heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi Province.
