Harka Sampang and Sudan Kirati in talks for possible party unification

KATHMANDU: Talks are underway between Shram Sanskriti Party chair Harka Sampang and former minister Sudan Kirati regarding the possibility of joining forces under a single political platform, leaders familiar with the discussions have said.

According to party insiders, discussions have been ongoing on the potential inclusion of Kirati and other leaders into the Shram Sanskriti Party led by Sampang. The talks reportedly include internal party restructuring and leadership roles.

Kirati has also confirmed that discussions are taking place with Sampang, stating that he has been engaging in talks with various political leaders from multiple angles. However, he said no final decision has been made regarding party unification.

“There are ongoing discussions with Harka Sampang from different perspectives. We have not reached a conclusion on unification,” Kirati’s secretariat said. “The matter is under discussion, but no immediate or final decision has been made.”

Reports suggest that if Kirati joins the party, he could be given a senior leadership role, and there is also speculation that he may be projected as a possible chief ministerial candidate for Koshi Province after the next elections. However, neither side has officially confirmed these claims.

Meanwhile, some leaders have speculated that former Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Santosh Pariyar, who joined Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party, could also align with Sampang’s party. Pariyar, however, has denied such claims, calling them baseless rumours.

Party sources said that a central committee meeting of the Shram Sanskriti Party is currently underway in Nakhkhipot, Lalitpur, where discussions on expanding the party and bringing new leaders on board are being held.

Both Sampang and Kirati have maintained that discussions on forming a unified political force have been ongoing for some time, but formal decisions are yet to be made.
