NC General Secretary Pradip Paudel criticizes govt for not releasing Gen-Z probe report

KATHMANDU: Pradip Paudel, general secretary of the Nepali Congress, has sharply criticized the government for failing to make public the report of the probe commission formed to investigate the Gen-Z protests.

In a statement on social media on Friday, Paudel said the report prepared by a commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki has already been submitted, but the government has kept it undisclosed, raising serious concerns.

He said it was unfortunate that the interim government had not fulfilled its responsibility even as its tenure nears an end, questioning what was preventing the report from being made public.

“Even as the interim government’s term is coming to an end, why is it refraining from releasing the report? Making the commission’s findings public is both the duty and responsibility of the government,” Paudel said.

He warned that withholding the report, as in the case of previous commissions, would be regrettable.

Paudel also recalled that the party’s central working committee has formally demanded the publication of the report.

He argued that the government’s failure to release the findings has prevented the truth from emerging and undermined citizens’ right to information.
