Shripanchami celebrated with devotion to Goddess Saraswati

KATHMANDU: The festival of Shripanchami, observed on Magh Shukla Panchami, is being celebrated today with devoted worship of Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge.

As part of the celebrations, the traditional Basanta Shravan ceremony was held at Hanumandhoka Durbar. Historically attended by kings during the monarchy, the ceremony has seen the presence of the President as the nation’s head since the establishment of the democratic republic.

This year, President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, National Assembly Chair Narayan Dahal, and other ministers attended the event.

According to the Shrimad Bhagwat Purana, Basanta Shravan involves listening to songs sung in the spring season, traditionally performed by Radha and the Gopis in search of Lord Krishna. The songs, celebrating the arrival of spring, are performed in the Basanta Rag style.
