Gagan Thapa to address NC Central Working Committee meeting tomorrow

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa is set to address the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy General Secretary Dila Sangroula informed Khabarhub that the meeting will focus on a thorough review of the March 5 House of Representatives election and future party strategies, with Thapa in attendance.

Thapa had resigned from the party president post on Wednesday, taking moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the March 5 elections. However, the CWC meetings held from Friday onward rejected his resignation.

During the Friday meeting, Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma proposed not to leave the party leadership position vacant amid challenging times, leading to the rejection of Thapa’s resignation. The Sunday meeting also upheld this decision after 12 hours of discussions.

According to Secretariat member Yubaraj Pandey, President Thapa will present proposals for party strengthening and outline possible strategies during the Tuesday meeting.

The CWC meeting may also set the date for the 15th general convention. Thapa’s address comes at a time when the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction had shown active parallel efforts following the electoral setback.
